Sunshine, I saw some eps of Lil Miss Perfect and was floored at the amount of money these moms spend! One mom said she allows 2-3 thousand per pagent! Some of the lil girls arent even that pretty but they put all the garb on them and they are very pretty. This one girl cried and cried for getting 2nd. I think that is the time to teach her about being a gracious loser rather than putting her in another pagent. I cant imagine the inflated egos these girls must have when they interact at school. I would love to see them 5 yrs later and see if they are happy they did it

Its so not about the money IMHO, unless these parents are clueless in the cost of entering vs the prize money obtained. I've heard a few parents justify the prize money for college angle, and just laugh. Seems like most of the mothers are either obese, and perhaps living vicariously through their pretty little dolls, or former pageant girls unable to give up the life and reliving their own glory also vicariously through the kids. Not so sure I see what the kids are getting out of it. Can't help but laugh when they talk about how much the child loves what they are doing, only to see a shot of the kid melting down. Just as bad as the dressup, makeup, etc is how they keep the kids "energized" through the day by feeding them candy.

I saw one woman who was a nervous wreck when her son was entered in a contest. The child was not even two years old! He didn't understand the whole process and cried and threw a tantrum. The mother's frustration with the child was scary to me. I just hope she didn't spank him. This whole thing was HER idea and HER pushing the child into it. Poor baby.

oh --what about the one who was so suer happy her kid didn't get "queen" but got ambassador such and such, then the editing put a blurb saying how you get crowned ambassador based on how much ad space and money you spent onthe pagent "program" guide. Talk about "buying" your award...

Haha Ladyw, I thought the same thing. And the week before, one of the girls won some super big award and it ended up being for the contestant that sold the most raffle tickets. Another one you can buy. YOu will never make enough money in these pagents compared to what they have to spend so it definitely is not about winning the money. I felt so sorry for some of the little girls. They may not like doing it but I remember one that just wanted to please her mommy and the mom was horrible. How about when the moms or grandmas compete!

I agree Kellsma, the mom and grandma competition was unbelievable. I'm short and definitely not slim, I would never, ever put on a tight dress and get up on stage. What world are they living in and do they own a mirror? They actually become angry when they lose, geesh!

I saw this show at my daughter's home and was appalled. If I were queen of the world, these pageants would be outlawed.

I'm with you. I'm watching one "on demand" and the amount of money they're spending (tens of thousands) is appalling. One little girl clearly doesn't want to do this, but her mother says she's just being a diva. Of course, she's the one who picks her 5-year-old daughter up by grabbing one arm and dragging her completely off the floor.

I watched one episode of this and was horrified. One girl actually did seem to love the competition, her brothers took part in one of her presentations and they seemed fine with it too, her mother seemed to be laid back but hands-on (she did the girl's makeup herself, she and the girl seemed very close and happy to be doing this together and the kid was absolutely not intimidated by performing). She presented as a normal, happy, playful little girl who just happened to have a show to do on Saturday. The other girl, however, threw fits right and left, repeatedly told her mother she didn't want to practice or take fittings or sit still for hair or whatever, and her mother just insisted and insisted that the kid loved the pageants, she was just having diva behavior, the kid had NO dance talent but Mom insisted that she do some routine she was ill-equipped to present, Mom did the whole routine with her from the sidelines and then Mom was upset when her kid didn't do well in the pageant. She paid hundreds of dollars for a professional to do the kid's hair and makeup, and then chased the hairdresser around to berate her about how crappy the kid's hairdo was (which was true, the hairdo sucked big time, but the kid also wasn't about to sit still to have her hair done properly). And the Dad was there forking over tens of thousands of dollars for this, and they entered him in the Dad's contest so he didn't feel like a human automatic teller (he lost by the way, Mom would have lost twice if they'd had a Mom's beauty pageant). The dresses are ridiculous looking, and the price tags on them are crazy-making. The makeup and hair have NOTHING to do with youthful beauty - most of us wouldn't wear that much makeup as an adult. Some of the kids and their mothers might be very well suited for and adjusted to this kind of competition, but most of what I saw involved crazed stage mothers and their poor helpless kids.

Oh if you watch more eps it only is worse and worse and over and over there will be moms insisting they will stop when the daughter wants to stop.. yeah, right.

I keep seeing a preview for this on TLC and something really bothers me. This woman's crying and says "I don't want a normal life. This is the life I love." What about her daughter? Does her daughter love this life?? I feel like most (not all) of these woman, who put their kids in pageants, are living through their kids. Maybe they weren't "pretty" enough to do pageants themselves, or they didn't win when they did them. I will never watch this show cause it really bothers me but this preview bothers me even more.

Or their mother's who think their daughters can win these things. I caught an episode a few months back, and immediately decided that child exploitation was not anything I was interested in. The first time I saw a kid throw a tantrum because her hair was curled wrong, that was it. Turned it off. And the mothers? I'd hate to see how these kids turn out in about 15 years.

i think it is close to child abuse. BUT then again, have you seen what kind of things people do to their dogs too? shaving most of their hair off then forcing the dog to wear clothes~~! sometimes boots and worse of all, Making them to ride around in a handbag with just their head sticking out of a hole. we live in a weird weird world. Toddlers and Tiaras is just one facet.

my daughter plays softball, I have seen the same type of parents and whiney kids there. Some of these parents are nuts! The kids are bullied, yelled at, heaven forbid they drop a ball.... Soccer and other sports are just as bad as pageants, just different costumes.

I catch this show sometimes. It's a bit odd. Many of the little girls seem not to be enjoying themselves and the other girls just come across as major monsters. Most of the parents are their for themselves not for the kids. The message of fake manufactured beauty that is sent to these girls at such a young age can't be good.

I do not agree that soccer and sports are just as bad as pageants. I've been around girls sports for about 17yrs and my kids have friends in the pageant scene and while all those things may have fanatical parents, I've never seen abuse on the level of pageants and I've not seen the lasting esteem issues on the level of the pageant girls.

My dh is an umpire for baseball (kids ages about 8 til about 18) and SOME not all or even most, parents are indeed nuts. Some of the coach/dads are the worst. My dh has been threatened, even at times, needed to be escorted out because some fans/coaches have gotten so upset over calls. Some were drunk. And some of the pressure that is put on some kids in sad. Kids have been threatened if they do not get a hit, etc... with various punishments from no dinner to worse... It really can get very disturbing.
