I'm still watching, but like others, the lack of humor in this series just bugs the crud out of me. And how dark (visually) it is. Mostly it's the lack of humor though. SG-1 and Atlantis were just plain fun to watch and I'm not finding that with Universe.

Missing fun...EXCELLENT point! I danced around it, but didn't quite get my finger on the heart of it. ITA! No fun, and no caring of the people to each other, whereas in other Stargate's we saw how they would be willing to lay down their lives for each other. This bunch would just step on each other to run away and save themselves!

Plus I thought of one other missing element. We saw all other SG's come in contact with TONS of different aliens. It was always interesting to see different worlds (even though almost all magically had air humans could breathe or were in convient bubbles or domes etc). Plus it was fascinating to see how different peoples evolved, what was important to them, how they lived etc. And it kept it fresh with new folks and semi-regulars. As I said before, but not in any detail, MORE ALIENS please!

I will admit that if this show had a different name and origin that I would probably be enjoying it more (although better lighting is not a crime!!). But they rope you into watching based on the Stargate name recognition which always stood for humour, friendship, grand adventure. I tuned in because I had certain expectations that the spirit of that would be continued. This sounds much more intense then I intend it to (it's just a show!! LOL) but I do wish that had they intended to create a whole new type of universe that the producers had done so and not messed with Stargate. Being a sci-fi nut I would probably still have watched just with a little less griping interfering with my potential enjoyment.

I am reminded of the uproar when Star Trek: Deep Space Nine began airing. "It isn't Star Trek, they don't go anywhere!" Turned out to be a pretty good show.

I like that they aren't running into anthropomorphic aliens every episode. The other SGs got away with it because of the whole "ancients seeding humans everywhere" back story. The breathable air thing is handled by the fact that stargates wouldn't be placed on planets that can't sustain that life. However, this ship is in an area of the galaxy in which Stargates were added, but nothing else, so logically, they shouldn't have run into any aliens that look like us. They have, actually, run into quite a bit of alien life, from those little bugs that were using up the water supply to that insect on the planet that they recovered the keno from to the giant dinosaur like lifeform as they were Stargate hopping last week.

Prisoner, didn't any of the numerous aliens who were seeded travel and colonize on any of these planets? Some were quite technically advanced, and cleary they are connected by stargates! Plus clearly the atmosphere is breathable on most planets given how Eli and company were Planet/Stargate jumping. And if they can have bugs, ruins and dinosaur's, shouldn't there be some people somewhere too???

IMHO they can have less aliens than the other stargates, but a few more might give for some more interesting storylines. Cause what they have now is IMHO sooooo sloooooow and draggy.

I've got every season of SG1 and SGA on DVD, so you don't need to convince me how good and fun those shows were. I've been on board the SG universe since back in the day when they debuted on Showtime. I still remember Sci-Friday when SG1 paired with Outer Limits for the best 1.5 hours of TV all week.

However, this is a completely different show. It is intentionally a completely different show with a different feel. I get why some of you might not like it, but I'm loving it.

I'm usually not much for extended "flashbacks", but getting to see what Greer went through as a child and young adult was enlightening. Rush's mindwarp two weeks ago was also welcome because it gave insight into his abrasive personality.

The easiest thing to say to someone who doesn't like it is to stop watching it. But I know how much fans have "invested" in the SG franchise, so it's not that easy to give up on it. For me, I look forward to the SGU/Merlin two hour block every weekend, and hope enough people are on board that this gets renewed for another season.

It's already been renewed. Though it appears the early rumors were true, even though the SG people denied them.

They were told they could have a guaranteed year of SGU AND bring back Atlantis. Instead they bartered for a 2 year deal for SGU. I recall being REALLY annoyed when I heard the network wanted another year (at least) of Atlantis but the production company wanted to go all in with SGU.

When the story broke no one denied it. Then when fans got furious, they tried to say that wasn't the case, and the future of SGU isn't guaranteed etc. But given how it's unfolding, I tend to believe it, esp since it's been made clear by SyFy that they DID want another season of Atlantis!

This still REALLY irks me...more than I can tell you truthfully!

BTW I don't mind the concept of theflashbacks...I liked the Greer one. But damn they took too long with the Rush one. The timing is vital to make it work. As I mentioned up thread, best part of the Rush flashback/dream/whatever was Daniel/Michael Shanks! Though it made me miss the SG's I liked that much ore truthfully.

BTW one more thing that REALLY irks me is that both SG movies, the SG1 Jack-centric one that I want desperately, and the Atlantis one are both on hold for fear that DVD's won't sell in this lousy economy. I WANT TO SEE THOSE MOVIES and the SG casts I love and miss!!!!!!!! Off to go sulk now!

I like it even tho it's different. And while there are certainly some contentious factions, there is also some tremendous loyalty (especially among Eli and the military personnel). Young guy was broken hearted about leaving Greer behind, but knew he had to save the civilians, it was his duty. And Greer didn't blame him for that at all.

I like that they are finally developing some plots that don't get all tied up at the end of one show, and that they are finally visiting other planets more regularly.

The communication stones creep me out, however.

Kar, you sure you mean Eli? Eli is the funny one who unlocked the clues to the Stargate by playing a computer game. He is a civilian.

If so I rest my cast...who even knows these characters names! (As I said earlier I know 2 with certainty and can guess at a couple others). Eli is just one of my 2 lolol

I have no problem with the setting, the fact that everything is not nice and shining, or with the problems with the ship and technology. That is to be expected in the situation.

It is the characters I have problems with. I also realize that under the situation, there would be problems between the characters, but there could also be some lighlearted moments. There are very few. Sometimes I think how Jack O'Neal would handle a situation and I just sigh.

As I said, I am still watching and I have seen some improvement the last couple of weeks. Getting off the ship onto planets is a must. I will keep my fingers crossed that they are just taking a long time for character building.

Lurk, you confused my Eli in one sentence and "young guy" in the next. "young guy" is the younger military guy who was involved with Chloe.

The last few episodes have really upped the quality of the show, IMO. I can't wait to see what happens with Telford and Kiva.

upon reading back a few posts I can see why this thread basically died.

however, SGU really is starting to develop REAL stargate type plotlines. LOVE that telfort is finally on the ship and not just switching bodies with the stones.

Love that Commander young is appearing weak and not up to the job, i'd love to see his character sidelined.

I have great hope that Eli will stumble onto a new control room or whatever. Since Chloe has been shot (isnt she the quietest calmest civilian ever?? no crying out in pain, just a southernbelle type swoon and fainting after being SHOT) i still hope she is going to die and get OFF of our screens.

Love love LUV ! the Warriors taking over the Destiny. that actress is good, i've seen her in other things. its about time that this series started introducing better characters who have acting abilities. i mean, come on, the second in charge bawling like a baby when Young was venting the air from the compartment. It just wouldnt happen. However, if my theory that this show is being written for 14 yr old girls, ya it would.

i'm so looking forward to next week. this can only get better and hopefully we have a great cliffhanger to end the season

I'm just thrilled to have Jack, Sam, and last show Daniel back. IMHO that has gone a LONG way alone to make it feel like a SG show again!! And glad we have some alien action w/the Lucian alliance, but shouldn't they have at least one physical trait to make them look like alien's???

BTW am I the only one that found it a bit odd that Rush came back to his body and not one person said one thing either acknowledging he was back, asking where he had been, etc etc.

I too am assuming Eli will stumble on some useful new command area or device. Hope he does it soon. He's pretty much my fav character, but watching him stumble around even darker than usual hallways is getting a bit old. HEY, maybe there new control room will have a blasted light switch for the Destiny!!! A girl can dream lol

They are human, not aliens.

Sanfran is correct. From Wikia:

"They're a human coalition made up of various Milky Way planets formed in the power vacuum left behind by the Goa'uld. They're criminals, mostly... Street gangs with spaceships."

They are??? Wow, how'd I miss that? I think the Goa'uld ship might have helped confuse me lolol. Well thanks for the info. And FWIW I was happier thinking they were aliens LOL. This SG really needs more aliens in it IMHO!

Hang on just re-read the wiki post. If they are from OTHER Milky Way planets, then aren't they aliens? In the same way we saw many aliens who were seeded, so to speak, by the T'auri (sp)...um us lol. But still aliens, from OTHER planets, many of whom had some distinguishing characteristics in past SG's.

Lycanthrope, good point!

None of them seem to have originated there on the ship in that part of the galaxy, so I guess that means Rush and Eli and everyone else on that ship are "aliens", too.

If you wish to hear what was said about them on the SGU show... go to the scene where Eli is listening to the info-videos made and narrated by Daniel Jackson. Chloe is walks in and they talk about it a bit.

it is at the 11 min mark

the lucian alliance is an organization of humans from a number of sovereign planets who have taken control of the resources and technology (blank audio)

Well, I was bored to tears. Is a season finale supposed to do that?? How in the world could the team that gave us the awesome SG1, and the really good Atlantis, come up with this drek??

I hung in there the entire season hoping it would get better. By the end I was hoping they would all just shoot each other, die and put me out of my misery. I wave the white flag...sorry but SGU SUCKS!

The finale did drag a bit. Apparently they were trying to stretch the story to make it a season end cliffhanger, but it really added almost nothing new to the storyline, except that the ship was in danger, and some of the Lucian Alliance might shift allegiance. From the previews, it looks like they are going to continue to stretch that story line for too long too.

It was a terrible way to leave things until October.

But I'll be ready to tune in and see what happens. I imagine if "The Gates" is a hit, Commander Kiva will die, but if it flops, she'll live and become a semi-regular.

I remember that Lucian Alliance guy that TJ stitched up...he was in SG1 as a Lucian bounty hunter that Vala once knew that went after Mitchell at his high school reunion.
