Does anyone watch Masters of Flip? This is my favourite reno show. Kourtney has great taste and I love her relationship with Dave. And Kevin and Chase and of course the landscaper who's name escapes at the moment.

My cable has a station called Makeful that airs The Great Interior Desing Challenge, a British show that I really enjoy. Anyone watching?

I love this show too...another show where they seem to be having fun while they work. So many offbeat personalities (especially the landscaping guy)

I'm pretty much addicted to HGTV. First question I asked Bell when I signed up with them - will I get HGTV and the Food Network?

Son calls these "the old people stations"

I saw an article saying the TLC is bringing back Trading Spaces. Nothing if it will have any previous cast members or not. Would like to see Paige, Frank, Vern & Edward again and hope the budget would be at least $2500.00 vs $1000.00.

Watched the first two episodes of Flip or Flop Vegas. So far, not too impressed. To me, it seemed like they do renos on the cheap

Will give it another week or two before deciding if I want to keep with it

Decided not to follow Flip or Flop Vegas after the third episode. Again didn't like the cheap way they work...but this time they did something that, IMO is dangerous. While redoing one of the bathrooms, they put the outlet BEHIND THE FAUCET AT SINK LEVEL! How that would pass inspection, I don't know. It didn't even look like it was GFCI

Next! (Sadly shakes head)

Despite how much we take care of the carpets, something accidentally fall on the carpet and the hard cleaning process makes the carpet looks old. This is a common issue faced by all. So I thought to start a thread on safe carpet cleaning tips.

Here are the tips that the carpet cleaning service providers follow:

Don’t rub the stains
Gently soak up the stain using a cloth or towel. The spread the stain by rubbing. The rubbing causes the particles to get into the carpet fibers.

Club Soda Process
Club soda is very effective in clearing the beer and wine stains. The mixture of white vinegar and water is also a recipe to remove the stain Spray the mixture over the stain and soak up the solution with a cloth or sponge.

Shaving Cream
Ordinary shaving cream works well on carpet. They clean the carpet without leaving any marks.

Love love love the new HGTV house. Too big for me to live alone in it, and I would have to add an elevator. would be a little scary to have to use the tacoma bridge to get anywhere, Isn't that the one they used the video of to show us how a sine curve worked and the bridge fell apart?

yes it is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tacoma_Narrows_Bridge_(1940)

Random home improvement show thoughts...

Trading Spaces starts February 7 I think, and it does look like they are bringing back a lot of familiar faces.

I didn't like Home Town in its first season (she bugged me) but the show and the stars are growing on me...and I have loved some of the old houses they have to renovate in their town.

I have the commercials for the new "Flip or Flop Nashville" - the unique thing about us is that we are no longer a couple. Seriously? That's the best you have? I find that horribly off-putting. Doesn't make them any different from Tarek and Christina because now they are no longer a couple!

But Roxip Tarek and Christina keep acting like they are a couple on the show, I find that just odd.

I quit watching because I just kind of burned out on the flip or flop shows (although I do catch the Fort Worth version every once in a while although I don't like the way they decorate the houses (too ostentatious for my taste but the couple seems nice and I enjoy seeing places that I've been to)). The Odd Un-Couple.

Tarek and Christina were always a little odd - now they are even odder I guess...LOL!

Fort Worth doesn't decorate to my taste either...too out there. Maybe I'm just getting old

I might try the Nashville one just to see what it's like

new smart home available in hgtv.com. it is in Dallas Texas and all one floor, mostly a good design but the worlds worst lighting (think dust collectors hung to high to reach) and some really who needs it art, but can be changed easily. really I need a bunch of cowboy hats mounted on the wall and fake boot statues on the floor to remind me I am in Texas? I liked the back porch where you can lower a screen to keep the bugs out in the summer otherwise it is open. No pool but a nice back yard and deck. It it would not be impossible for me to clean because the ceilings are so high, I would consider living there, I have friends who live in Dallas.

I saw some of the clips on the home in Dallas - not a fan of its design...do not like the ugly green backsplash...but still wouldn't turn it down if I won it...LOL!

On some thread we were having a discussion about folding doors and I had to laugh because last night Tamra Day (Bargain Mansions) used them on a house she designed in Kansas City. Perhaps Kansas City doesn't have bugs? Otherwise it was a fantastic house.

So I just looked up the HGTV Smart Home and it is honestly quite a ways from Dallas - especially downtown Dallas where I work. How disappointing...LOL! (It isn't even in Dallas County.)

there is a new dream home starting soon. it is on Hilton head Island and it is not a terrible design, lots of wasted space, but hey that is their style.
So I was psyched on entering, and then I went on to you tube for a video of people who won those homes. I figured if I sold my current home I could afford to pay the taxes I would owe on the new home. but not so fast, they said something like I would owe 700K on a million dollar home, that kind of stopped me in my tracks. Now they do give you 250K which is also subject to taxes. I think I would need a financial specialist to see if I could pay it off. Oh wait, I have a retired accountant and a retired financial adviser in my family.

Yeah, I have heard it's not worth winning, let us know what you find out.

Although I suppose if you sell it you could use the proceeds to pay all the taxes.

I really like the layout and the location,so not sure about if it is worth it.
Of course there are other shows that may make me question the construction, but 25% of the people do move in and live there for at least a year. I think they greatly over value the houses. I remember when selling my mother's house that the realtors grossly undervalued what we could sell it for because it was 50 years old. Newer houses were valued much more. But the house had many upgrades,so we made a deal with a realtor that he got a percentage of everything over a certain amount and he sold it for twice was it was originally valued at. The new house down the street sold for less even though it started for more.

oh,while I am sure I can't find it now, there was law suit filed against the show love it or list it. Turns out that the people pay 100% toward the remodel and the company of the show kept half the money for the upgrade for their costs and gave the contractors less than half, which meant there was not enough money to finish the house and they left holes in the walls and loose wires. The company is based in Canada, just to make the suit a little more difficult.

My kids and I have been watching some new houses being built just outside our subdivision. It seemed strange because all four were built, side by side by side with the same exact style. I jokingly commented that HGTV might be moving in to our small town and GUESS WHAT? That's exactly what it is! Rock the Block 2 will be filming here in tiny little Dallas, GA. They have had signs up for the past few weeks, Expect Delays "Road Work" Oct 13-Nov 13 but that road work is really going to be the filming of the show.

ha ha saw that show . it was different. Pluses and minuses to all.

Did you notice how the houses sold? I am curious if they made some fixes to them. they said they each went in the high 600Ks

The new HGTV is available in Colorado. The house is very bad. From a mud room that is by the deck only and across they entire house from the outside dirt (must walk through Kitchen dining room and living room) to a reading nook that you can accidentally be trapped in by outward opening doors with no opening window, so many thoughtless design. But it is the house, 100K and the car.
