Bodies was a bit convoluted. I think of it as another show that had an interesting idea but then got rather lost in itself.

9-1-1 premiere on ABC was last night (new network and day). Besides having some eye rolling in parts of the storylines, I loved the flashback to Athena watching the Poseidon Adventure as a kid, and the light hearted dis at losing the Oscar. I am looking forward to next week - although they say its a three part season premiere so we will be sailing the seas for a bit more.

Watched this for the first time because it had a cruise ship…and Peter Krause. I’ll watch again.

Anyone watching Shogun? I'm really liking it. It feels so well done. there's also a podcast to listen to after each episode. I think the show is on FX.

Oh yes, I'm watching. I was such a big fan of the original adaptation in the 80s with Richard Chamberlain, so for sure I had to see this one. I like it but I'm not a fan how seedy John Blackthorne's character is in this version. I'm still an episode behind.

Shogun - Loved the book and the movie way back when so of course I am watching it. I am loving Hiroyuki Sanada as Toranaga. As for 9-1-1, as corny as it can be, I am hooked on both versions of the show so I am happy to see the L A group back.

Ack!!! I have not been to this thread for weeks and weeks. I did not make it to the end of Oppenheimer, snoozed out, and then all the new series of television shows started and just couldn't put in that extra hour. I usually only watch two hours a day of television max, except for Wednesdays now that they have Survivor and Amazing Race as consecutive 90 minute programs. I think I came to this thread right now to comment on how much I am still liking this new series The Tracker.

I'm watching a show from AMZ Prime and it's called "Renegade Nell"...Fun show put out by Disney I think. Anyhow, there is a character in it that was bugging me....he seemed oddly familiar but I couldn't place him until I noticed his bad scraggly hair. I thought "That's not Nick from FTWD is it?" I looked closer and thought "no, it's not"....but it kept bugging me until I looked it up and discovered it is, in fact, FTWD's Nick (IRL, Frank Dillane). son of Maddie and brother of Alicia!. His character is pretty wacky on Renegade Nell. Screen shot from ep 3:

Is it just me or do some of you guys also feel letdown with the show "Tracker" starring Justin Hartley? I started watching it because of Hartley's acting on "This is Us" and I've watched every episode of Tracker, but something's wrong. Hartley is a good actor but in Trackers, he uses one serious face and that's about it. He smiles every once in awhile, but all that seriousness and an occasional smile just ain't cuttin' it! His whole back story is basically that he had bad parenting from a screwed up daddy. To top that off, there is little to no character development. His female partners who do the research from their home are obviously a couple, but other than that, who are they? They have no back story at all. The guy with no legs is a more interesting character than anyone else (although the computer expert on all these kinds of shows is ALWAYS some kind of standalone outsider or quirky type) so he's more interesting but still just another undefined character that doesn't help the flat writing much. Colter's lawyer is a woman he has an undefined past with. I'm beginning to wonder if this series is written by an AI...they don't have actual feelings to help create a story that can display real emotions. I guess the short version is that I just can't get emotionally invested in any character on this show even though I really want to. They all do their jobs well, but after 7 episodes, I'm still waiting for them to make me feel something more than being annoyed at the lack of emotion, good writing, and a layered role for a good actor. Trackers has already been renewed for a second season. Why?

That is definitely Nick from FearTWD! I'm glad he's in something, I got the impression things hadn't gone so well for him since the end of Fear. And I've had the exact feeling about Justin Hartley, and Tracker itself. He's likeable because I think of him from This Is Us, but if I didn't I'd think he just isn't right for the part, he doesn't show any appropriate emotion, just serious face all the time. Agree about the side characters too, I can't see ANY chemistry between Hartley and the female lawyer he's meant to have been having an on/off affair with for years. The guy with no legs (who was in the rebooted QAF by the way, as a much ore interesting character) was given some backstory last episode, but nothing he could get his teeth into. "Trackers has already been renewed for a second season. Why?" Justin Hartley is pretty.

""Trackers has already been renewed for a second season. Why?" Justin Hartley is pretty." Well, if that's how the producer sees him, I'm surprised they don't make him do a lot of topless acting like he did in his show within a show, "The Manny"! That would help a lot....but still not enough.

Kitt, Frank Dillane was a hoot in Renegade Nell. He was great at playing an aristocratic poser/highwayman. His character was a grifter betrothed to a sugarmama (Joely Richardson) and robbing stagecoaches. I cracked up when he dressed up like the Queen to further their plan to shake things up in Ye Olde England. You should check Renegade Nell out, Kitt. I think you'd like it. It's fun and exciting and comes with a touch of magic. Only 8 eps! Here's another Nick Pic from Renegade Nell/IMDB Frank can be pretty, too! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14502758/mediaviewer/rm1167870465/

Kitt, did you know Frank Dillane was in Sens8 also? Plus some other shows I've seen and never noticed it him! In Sense8 he played a character (3 episodes) called "Shugs"....here is pic of him from that series. Of course the only part of him that's recognizable is his straggly hair! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2431438/mediaviewer/rm3310634240?ft0=name&fv0=nm0226817&ft1=image_type&fv1=still_frame&ref_=tt_ch

No, I didn't know he was in Sense8! Must have been just before FearTWD or maybe at the same time. I might try Renegade Nell, I cancelled Disney+ literally today (like a couple of hours ago!) but I have it until my next renewal would have been, which is the 26th, so I might have time.

I watched e1, lol, caught me at a good time. And yes, I enjoyed it a lot, unusual show but a good mix of things. And that's just the sort of role I could see Frank Dillane in, a touch of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Pretty much same thing I was going to say, except I have never lived in a Hollywood area. It's like Kevin from This is Us got a more interesting calling in life. But I do also like the story lines. And I love the "aunties" who back him up. Guessing we will get a back story on all of his support staff later on, hope so. But for right now, I am sticking with the show.

I like Tracker also, tho I'm hardpressed to say why. The writing isn't that great, so it doesn't surprise me that Kevin doesn't come off well.

I wouldn't say that Hartley doesn't have "much acting range". Hartley would have to be given a role that challenges him to be a different kind of person to see what kind of range he has. In other words, he's being typecast as a handsome and successful good guy who's great at his finding-lost-people-and-horses-job. He'd have to be given a part with more range (as a serial killer or drag queen or something) to compare his talent in totally different roles. I'll keep watching Tracker, too. It's an easy watch, unlike a lot a lot of other complicated shows I spend time on. I just wanted to point out that I'm not criticizing Justin Hartley's talent...I'm criticizing the writers for making a formulaic show that Justin (or any other actor) could be successful with if they remember their lines.

I've been noticing alot of the shows I watch are currently experiencing lackluster writing. I was out on a teacher's strike for only 5 days and it took me a year to recover emotionally and financially. I can't imagine what it was like for tv writers to be out of work for as long as they were. I think it may be awhile before they get their full stride back again. At least that is the excuse I'm going with for the many shows I used to like.

SanFran, I'm not sure it would be as successful with another actor. I do think Hartley is very likeable and thus part of its charm.

"SanFran, I'm not sure it would be as successful with another actor." I think if they had put, for instance, Bradley Cooper or Matt Bomer or Jensen Ackles in that role, it would actually be more successful...OR if they just got better writers.

I found an article where Hartley talks about his perspective of Kevin vs Colter. Hartley is executive producer on Tracker and Ken Olen, director on This is Us, joined Hartley in creating Trackers. I can confirm Sanfran’s suggestion that Renegade Nell (on Disney+) is very enjoyable. Easy watching and engaging. I also watched Ridley on Netflix, and while holding your interest, the characters just aren’t very charismatic or even likable. We watched The Talented Mr Ripley this afternoon to compare, and the contrast was so clear, right from the start you felt empathy for Tom, and an attraction to Dickie. Although I have Paramount+ through Amazon, I can only watch Showtime (where The Talented Mr Ripley is) through the separate Paramount+ app, which is weird.
