Texannie - your meaning came through to me because I read it as you intended and not what spell check did.

I understood your meaning too. Does that mean we now speak Texannie?

Since he still has 2 years on his contract, I guess he'll still be collecting pay from Greys. I couldn't understand why Meredith didn't call his sister. I mean, if he was in a 'rural' hospital in Washington, she would have had time to call her and let her know.

My pet peeve on this episode.... he was driving to the airport. The SeaTac is just south of Seattle. From the view from their house, he didn't live that far from the city.... how rural does Shondra think Seattle is that no one would come to help until they saw the smoke from the car fire? Also, if he was injured as badly as they said, he would have been life flighted to a hospital that could handle his injuries.

I hope we now see him in more movies.

The vegetation was definitely Mulholland Drive in LA. Good that they didn't keep him on life support until after the season's finale. They fact that they got back together, meant that Mer was able to "complete her relationship" with Der. Yet there is still a Dr. Sheppard doing neuro and an intern Grey at the hospital.

It seems that all the male characters get killed off in this show. Owen better watch out.

My pet peeve about this show is why was that road not shut down? Here in Texas if there is a major accident you are just stuck for hours on end while they clean it up! Furthermore, what are the odds? There was absolutely no traffic on that road and then suddenly out of nowhere an 18 wheeler appears and bashes into the side of McDreamy's car?

Of course this is what I told my daughter "See what happens when you answer your cellphone while in your car?"

Yeah, it was all implausible. Roxip you are correct, they would have still been there investigating the initial accident. I hardly think Derek would have stayed around for HOURS, while they did the investigation, clean up and towed the vehicles away. And never check his phone during all those hours?

I let my tape run while I was doing other things, but what I did see of this episode was poorly done. IMO.

I now have no reason to continue watching this show. I have been looking for a way out for a few years and always get drawn back in. I can finally be done with it. RIP Grey's Anatomy.

yes... the police usually stay on the scene until everyone leaves.... wasn't the car that blew up in the middle of the road too?

Mamapors, I feel that way too. It's become too much like a soap opera to me.

Kooklie, yes, it was. So either Derek was there for HOURS, during which time he never bothered to check his phone, and long after all the victims had been transported to the hospital.

Or miraculously they cleaned up all the mess in the same amount of time it took them to load the victims and get them off to the hospital.

Plus the whole thing at the hospital seemed so contrived and poorly written. Derek calmly thinking that they were going to let him die? Really? My mind would be SCREAMING, not so circumspect!

Plus the one doctor saying over and over that they needed to do a CT, and them ignoring her AND the neurosurgeon blowing off the call and arriving so late?

Sorry, it was just a mess. Turns out Shonda wrote this episode herself. She ought to stick to other pursuits.

The car that was blown up had already been put on the back of a wrecker (they made a point of showing it).

Perhaps that was the way Derrick worked through surgeries...dispassionately and as cool as a cucumber!

Imagine being the surgeon whose ineptitude (and dinner party) helped be the death of a neurosurgeon god!

I'm not going anywhere. I think this season of Grey's has been the best in years. I hate that Derrick is leaving the show but at least he left with his integrity - I mean - how much more heroic can you get than saving 4 lives and letting the entire world know how much you love your wife? I find myself really liking some of the characters that a couple of seasons ago I totally disliked. I want to see where they go with April and Avery, I love the evolution of Alex, and I think it is interesting that they are featuring the romance between Richard and Avery's mother.

The only unrealistic thing for me (or out of the realm of the normal unrealism (word?) of typical tv shows) is that the last responder, I think the big fire truck, didn't make sure that Derek left before they did. For a simple reason like his car might not have started, but mainly because you don't know what a calm hero is going to be like once the adrenalin goes and it's all over. He should have been escorted.

He lost signal on his phone right before the accident so that's why he didn't call while they were waiting for help.

The calm seems normal to me. And the mess in the ER seems normal to me. Sadly.

I think the show's been better this last season or so. A while back (two seasons?) it went through an awful patch and I barely stuck with it, but I think it's been back to a lot of its former glory this year.

Having said that, I think Derek the character had run its course, so I'm not sad to see him go.

Fires in the middle of the road usually melt the asphalt.... especially, when they burn for awhile before the fire truck arrives.

Derrick is leaving the show but at least he left with his integrity

I don't think being stupid enough to stop crosswise in the middle of the road to grab your cell phone is "leaving with integrity." JMO.

As for the car on the wrecker, again, that takes hours. This from someone who was in a wreck not that bad, and it took over an hour to get both vehicles towed, not lifted onto a wrecker in a rural area!

There's no reason for Derek to stick around that long, because again, the victims would be long gone to the hospital.

He lost signal on his phone right before the accident so that's why he didn't call while they were waiting for help.

And then he miraculously gets it back at the same place just at that moment?

Again, not believable to ME, but your mileage may vary. :-)

I am wondering if the doctor who wanted the CT scan will move over to Sloan Grey. They seemed to focus on her a bit, so it made me think she might be a new character in the future.

And since a seat is now available on the board with Derek's departure, I am thinking that Mer will give it to Alex.

I was wondering about the same thing.

I was also wondering if Christina will come back to support Meredith through the funeral, whether Amelia will take it personally that Meredith didn't call her to come and give Derek a second opinion, and whether Derek's mother and sisters will show up at the hospital.

Didn't the previews show Meredith telling Zooey they were "leaving?"

I have not actually watched Grey's Anatomy for a couple of seasons. But hearing that Derek was killed just put me in tears. ... So wrong.

Well of course we do Texannie.

We all know Meredith isn't going to leave Seattle Grace SLoan, etc. She is just doing what she does best in times of stress which is run (since with two small children she can't pick up strangers in bars).

I hate when the writers do things and don't think we (the viewing public) will notice.
Like why the he*k did Derrick's phone even ring at the point in time - since he has no service when the accident happened, that was why he could not call 911.also the lady in the van told him she travels that road all the time and there is never phone service in the area.
I expected Merideth to either have Derrick transferred to their hospital to try and fix him or at least call someone, Alex, his sister, someone. She would have had time when the police were transporting her and the kids to the hospital. You would think she would have called someone to come look after the kids so she could deal with Derrick.
