War, if you are on FB, you can check out my page. Holly graduated 5 years to yesterday from Culinary School with certificates in the Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry. She currently teaches at SurLaTable in Dublin, Calif. She has had different jobs at bakeries and such. She also sells her own stuff (cakes/Cookies/cupcakes, etc) to people through ther FB page "HollyCowIceCream" which soon will be all of her baked goods.

The best school nearest you for Culinary Arts and B&P is College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. Have Kota look at their web site and the brochures for those programs.

Holly went to Diablo Valley College through the California College System.

Oh, we'll have to check that one out! I know a couple of the art schools she looked at have culinary programs, but we hadn't gotten to the point of looking in depth yet. She's only recently decided on culinary arts over art school.

Thank you, I have that site marked for her to look over. The big plus for them is that they are really close to home, which is what she wants.

Heh, and that should have been pastry chef in my last post, not pasty chef. I'm having keyboard sticking issues, lol.

Whatever you do, do not do anything with Art Institutes! They are a ripoff company!

Friday's Mission

Guess I should have posted that!

And funny, Landi, AI was one of the colleges that came to her high school last year and are really relentless. They call, email, and send mail constantly. And that was even after she told them she was taking a year off before making a decision. And y'all know how Kota is, the more you pressure her to do something, the harder she digs in and fights it, so they are out, lol. Anything they send now goes straight to the recycle bin.

You've been a busy girl Landileigh! Hope your illness is just a little 24 bug, I can't even believe that norovirus is going around....makes me want to not leave my house!

I have a few things on my list for today but not sure how much will get done. It is supposed to hit the 90's! That always slows me down.

I do have some office stuff to deal with so when it gets hot I have that.

Haven't done a thing, LOL, I was hungry so grabbed some leftover Mexican food from last night and now I want a nap.

It is not looking good for accomplishing much cleaning today, hahahaha.

It seems as if the bug was just part of the Iron Infusions that I am going through. The 4th of 5 is tomorrow at 9:30. Then I am going to take a nap.

I made enough food the last couple of days; while Holly was working on her baking project (she had baby shower cupcakes and cookies to work on) I have the workspace, and where she lives she doesn't; so that I don't have to cook for the next 3 days. Going to ride out this Heat Wave!

Chuck and I drove to Napa to have our yearly physicals at Kaiser Napa. We both love our GP's so much, we are willing to make the 40-minute drive to see them.

I made homemade spaghetti sauce - and it was delish!

I have been going through a huge use and purge, I want to be meal based, not pantry based. My husband looks at the pantry and thinks we are going to starve! I will let you know how it goes!

First, Landi, I showed Kota the College of the Canyons website, she said thank you very much! After looking it over, she started checking mapquest and metrolink to see the driving distance and how close to the school the metro gets. So far, she liked what she saw. Her original plan was to start in the fall, but that might changed based on what school/program she chooses and when their next classes start.

I've been making ahead meals for a while on things like enchilada pie and casseroles. When I make them, I double or triple the recipes, then freeze the one or two extra. I love it! It's so nice for nights I know I won't have much time to prepare meals or those nights we end up with unexpected company.

I picked up around the house, washed dishes twice (was one of those unexpected guests nights, lol,) and went shopping for my nephews birthday.

Tomorrow me and Kota, not sure about Caleb yet he might have plans, are going to nephews birthday party. Darren's going deep sea fishing for a work trip. And then tomorrow night is one of the Moon Walk's at the desert preserve that I'm planning on going to. Those are fun and the weather should be pretty nice, unlike the last few months. Probably won't get anything done around the house.

LMAO about the pantry....cracks me up.

Not sure of anything getting done today since it is going to hit 91, and then 93 tomorrow. Maybe some office stuff, or some work when it cools down tonight.

Off to check the bird bath, I have been seeing lots of birds drop by, and to tilt the umbrellas so the sun won't shine hard into the house.

Litter boxes managed, cleaned up the kitchen, scraped the kitty throw-up off my comforter and the floor, LOL. Watched some tapes and did a crossword.

So a few things have gotten done.

We let Holly take a year off, because we knew that once she was in the Culinary program she could not take a break. It is 2 1/2 years straight. No summers off, because they teach classes in the summer that the students need for their certifications! You think of the expense in the beginning (knife kits, uniforms, etc.) but believe me, This went VERY FAR and Holly still uses every piece she was given.
Anyways, she got too excited and started in the Summer before that Fall. It was a good way to get her feet wet, and she was able to take her Culinary Math and some other pre-reqs out of the way.

Nothing today other than emptying the dishwasher, cleaning the coffee machine and doing the evening dishes.

Iron Infusions today, and it is just too dang HOT!

Dang, Dipo, you were hotter today than we were! It was only 90 here.

Landi, I sent you an email, let me know if you don't get it.

Taking a year off school has been really good for Kota, I think. She was pretty stressed by the time she graduated, just worn out from school. And stressed trying to decide what she wanted to do. She's spent this year doing her own thing, she's volunteered, taken some community classes (things like drawing, painting, a cake decorating class, facial care,) and worked part time babysitting. Now she's ready to get to school for something she loves.

We went to nephews birthday party today. Had fun. He got a cell phone and he is just tickled to pieces. He told me he was going to call me tonight since I'm nocturnal (he's 11.) One of the older girls (maybe 12/13?) didn't know what nocturnal meant, so his little 8 year old sister informed her that I didn't sleep at night, I sleep in the day...like a bat. I was cracking up, I know my niece is smart, she's testing soon for the GATE program, but I was surprised to hear her give a good definition of nocturnal, lol. Anyway, we had a good time.

I did decided not to go to the nature preserve tonight since no one was home to go with me at the time. Darren didn't get home til after 9...he had a good day, caught 8 fish. I'll be cooking that tomorrow along with chicken for me and Caleb since I'm allergic to fish and Caleb hates it. My bil invited us to bring the fish to their house, they have ribs out for tomorrow. Depending on how tired Darren is, we might do that and then I can skip the chicken.

Yeah and it is supposed to be hotter today! Maybe 94-95; I am not looking forward to it at all.

I haven't planned to do anything much today, just finished sweeping up the bedroom, watching my tapes and reading the paper.

I had the laptop in my bedroom for a while so figured I would wipe down the desk before I brought it back. Cleaned the desk and then got distracted and ended up wiping down the bookcases and floors in the office.

Watching a movie on the Hallmark Channel, and its rainy which is making me feel cooler, LOL.

Just waiting for it to cool down!

So funny Wargod, I never think of you as nocturnal, but as sleep flexible, LOL. My friends and I were just having this conversation....I stay up late, my friend in Monterrey is usually up all night going to bed a dawn, and my other friend says she tries to get to sleep by midnight.

I have weird sleep patterns, try to get to sleep around 1am ish, but then I am usually awake again around 3 or 4, too open the house when it is hot, then again around 6ish to put on the news; but I usually fall back asleep and end up getting up around 9ish, or later depending on how late I was up the night before.

I am thinking about going out on my balcony tonight to read my book since it will be so nice and cool!

I actually prefer going to bed around 3-4am and getting up around 10-11. Besides the fact that I hate early mornings, I think I get more accomplished with a later schedule. And there's also the fact that even though I love my family, I'm a total introvert and I absolutely need a couple hours alone to relax and recharge otherwise I get twitchy.

Pretty much since my aunt died, and I don't have to be up at any particular time, I'm just not getting tired til 6-8am and then getting up somewhere between 1-2pm, maybe 3 if I had a really late morning. I've been trying to shift it back a few hours since Darren started on day shift, but it's just not working well.

Ever so often when I do have something to do on an early morning, like in June, my niece is having an 8th grade promotion at 10am (so early, lol,) I'll take a sleeping pill and go to bed at a somewhat decent time. But that tends to be a disaster, I toss and turn, wake up several times when I finally do get to sleep, and then end up groggy in the morning.

Anyway, today I've done laundry. Lots and lots and lots of laundry. Since it was 94, I hung every bit of it. Been throwing some, like jeans and towels, in the dryer for a few minutes to make them not stiff, but trying not to run the dryer too much. On the plus side, since it was 94, didn't take long at all for anything to dry!

Also did a bit of picking up around the house, wiped my bathroom sink and finally changed the shower liner out. Made a green salad and a fruit salad to go with dinner tonight, Darren fried up the fish and made mine and Caleb's chicken. Was pretty good.

I did take a nap, LOL, then finished off a tape from last week. Cleaned up the kitchen, planning to run the dishwasher around 10 tonight....want to miss the peak electric hours. And refilled water bottles, with the heat I have been gong through them like water, LOL.

Tonight I will run down the trash and recycling, and pick up the mail.

Wednesday's Mission

97 here today. Supposed to be 98 tomorrow. We don't have the swamp cooler up and running yet, should still have another few days of nasty weather end of May/beg of June (we typically do around graduation) so we haven't been in a hurry. I said pfft on that and told Darren he could get it ready this weekend. Weather report is showing 75 on Friday, but other 9 days of 10 day report are 80's and 90's.

My poor pups were so hot, Cleo and PJ kept finding the perfect spots to have the fans hit them, lol. Ollie decided the best place to lay down would be the bathroom floor and he spent most of the day there. I ended up shaving Cleo because she was quite shaggy. She had to be hot, she didn't scream or fight once, just set there and let me go really short. Then shaved PJ, who wasn't that shaggy, but is now really short too and then gave both of them a bath.

Cleaned up the kitchen, balanced my checkbook, and didn't do a whole lot else.

Tomorrows plans are just basic housework and I'm going to do some laundry for Caleb while he's in classes. Probably won't get a whole lot done, but we'll see.

Oh, thanks for the reminder, it is probably time to balance my checkbook.

Thank goodness it has cooled down a lot, only supposed to hit the mid 80's; and getting cooler the rest of the week and weekend.

I got through my mail, and packaged up my return to QVC. I swear its getting where it costs more to return items to make me think of not buying. But last night I purchased a portable AC unit for the bedroom, LOL. It had free shipping and was a lot cheaper than any of the ones I could find on google so seemed like a good deal.

I haven't seen my kitties for several days, and today they are both out laying in the living room. I think while it has been hot Sylvester lives under the bed, and Nala just finds different cool spots as she can.

I need to unload the dishwasher unloaded and maybe do some sweeping, but it's is getting warmer so not much else will get done.
